Tennis-Halep withdraws from US Open for COVID-19 reasons

World Number two Simona Halep from Romania will not travel to New York to compete at the U.S. Open due to COVID-19 issues, he said Monday.

“After weighing all the points in question and given the exceptional cases in which we live, I have made the decision not to go to New York to play at the US Open,” Halep, the current Wimbledon champion, wrote on Twitter https://twitter.com/Simona_Halep/status/1295329524813639681.

“I have said that I will put my physical condition at the center of my decision, so I prefer to stay and exercise in Europe. I know that the USTA and WTA have worked tirelessly to organize a safe occasion and I wish you all a success in the tournament. (Report through Rohith Nair in Bengaluru, edited through Ed Osmond)
