Taj Mahal will be closed until August 15th! Nearly a month after the reopening of more than two hundred centrally protected monuments in the country, the Taj Mahal’s biggest tourist attraction, the Taj Mahal is unlikely to open soon. Citing nearby resources, the Indian Express reported that the monument is unlikely to open until August 15. Resources also added that even after August 15, the monument may take a few more weeks to start receiving tourists.
Earlier this month, Union Culture Minister Prahlad Patel said historical monuments and other heritage sites would be reopened from 6 July to revive the tourism sector. However, he had also supported that district administration and other local governments would also have a voice in opening tourist sites in their jurisdiction. As a result, more than two hundred monuments were opened, but the monuments of the city of Agra, in addition to the Taj Mahal, remained closed.
Agra district justice of the peace judge, Prabhu Narain Singh, said in an order that the city’s monuments were a buffer zone outside the containment spaces and that it would not be appropriate to open the monuments thereafter. At the same time, 55 positive Cases of Covid-19 were reported in the city and the city also had a total of 70 active containment zones in its jurisdiction. A wise official of the discussion also told the Indian Express that Covied-19 instances have descended into the city and the stage is not as bad as it was, the state government was unwilling to take risks. The government has also asked the district government to do the same. SOURCES at the ASI branch also said the management was even in a position to pass some other ordinance extending the closure of the monument for two to four more weeks.
