Syria accuses Israel of launching airstrike and says two civilians were injured

Israel carried out airstrikes in northwestern Syria on Thursday night, wounding two civilians, Syria’s official SANA news outlet said.

According to SANA, Israeli aircraft introduced their missiles from the Mediterranean Sea, southwest of the port city of Tartus, several sites in Hama province.

In addition to the two civilians injured, the news firm said there was damage to the affected sites and that, as a result, there were fires in the domain.

SANA said air defenses were activated and intercepted some of the Israeli missiles over the province. Syria claims to intercept Israeli missiles, though army analysts doubt those claims.

According to local reports, explosions were observed near the town of Masyaf and near two spaces in the west of the government-controlled province.

Images posted on social media showed what gave the impression of being faulty Syrian air defense missiles flying through the air and exploding in the area.

The Israeli military usually comments on rapid movements in Syria, but has admitted to spending a lot of raids against Iranian-backed teams seeking a foothold in the country. It says it is also targeting arms shipments believed to be intended for those teams.

It also houses a facility belonging to the Center for Scientific Studies and Research, known as CERS, hit several times in the past.

Western officials have long linked the ESRB to the manufacture of chemical weapons. According to the United States, sarin fuel evolved in this center, an accusation denied by the Syrian authorities.

Israeli movements have continued in Syrian airspace, largely controlled through Russia, even as ties with Moscow have deteriorated in recent months.

Israel has found itself at odds with Russia, as the Jewish state increasingly supports Ukraine which opposes the Russian invasion, while continuing to seek freedom of movement in Syrian skies.

The latest attack in Syria attributed to Israel on August 14, when 3 Syrian infantrymen were killed after an alleged Iranian site near the Russian naval base of Tartus was attacked.
