Kristersson is in Turkey for an official visit. The main topics of the talks will be the implementation of the agreement on the accession of Sweden and Finland to NATO, signed at the NATO summit in Madrid, EU-Turkey and global and regional affairs, RIA Novosti reported.
“I would like to tell you that the Swedish parliament has paintings about the creation of an inter-parliamentary ‘friendship group’ with Turkey. Sweden will abide by the memorandum until the end. Sweden will not participate in the discussion with the PKK,” the Star newspaper said. He quoted the Swedish prime minister as saying.
Finland and Sweden, in the context of the occasions in Ukraine on May 18, submitted to the Secretary General of NATO a request for club in the alliance. At first, Turkey blocked the start of the procedure for examining these candidatures, but on 29 June, Turkey, Sweden and Finland signed a security memorandum that takes into account all Ankara’s concerns.
Turkey, for its part, withdrew its objections to the accession of these two European countries to NATO. As of October 6, 28 of the 30 countries have already taken a decision on the admission of Northern countries to NATO, with the exception of Turkey and Hungary.
