CHICAGO (WLS) — One on Chicago’s Southwest Side was named in honor of Chicago police officer James Svec.

This took up position at West 77th Place and South Kolmar Avenue.

Svec died in December 2021 from COVID-19 headaches, which he suffered in the line of duty.

He served there for 20 years.

After the ceremony, Svec’s daughter explained that she was looking for other people.

“I need you because of your wonderful personality and the way you lived your life. Every day like it was his last, and he took advantage of every single opportunity he could,” she said.

Svec’s daughter said she bought her first home in the community in 1989.
