Stormwater drainage completed in Amerat, Oman

Oman Water and Wastewater Services Company continues with remaining technical paintings on a water allocation in Al Hamra Wilayat, Dakhliyah Governorate

Muscat – The company in charge of the allocation of the rainwater drainage channel in the Mahaj region of Amerat has completed the structure of a four km long and 5-9 m wide canal, which will solve congestion in the wilayat.

Muscat municipality road project engineer Mohammed bin Salem al Yazidi said: “The task is part of the municipality’s plans to protect the homes of the citizens of Amerat from mountain water.

He added that the municipality has taken into account the volume of water coming down from the mountains in the canal.

Meanwhile, Oman Water and Wastewater Services Company is carrying out the remaining technical paintings of a water allocation in Al Hamra wilayat, Dakhliyah governorate, and its villages at a cost of RO 27 million.

According to Suleiman bin Khalaf al-Yahyai, Dakhliyah’s visitor director, the task includes the structure of a large reservoir with a capacity of 18,000 cubic meters, transmission lines with a total duration of 94 km, a built-in pipeline network covering 350 km and 22 water pumping stations with 68 pumps.

“After the final touch of all those structural works, around 81,000 citizens of wilayat will take advantage of the allocation, which has a distribution capacity of 225 million gallons of drinking water per day. The assignment is expected to be completed in April next year,” he added. Sixty-five percent of the allocation is complete.
