The injured were taken to hospital and reportedly suffered fractures, firefighters said earlier on Twitter.

Witnesses at the scene said the scene had two exits and chaos ensued as everyone ran towards the exits.

Local media described the place where more than 10 bands played as an annual occasion marking Independence Day in the Central American country.

The stampede is one of many fatal injuries at public events that Latin America has witnessed in recent years.

In June, another 4 people were killed and about 70 injured when part of a bleachstand collapsed in an arena in the Colombian town of El Espinal.

In one of the region’s most tragic events, a 2004 fireplace at a Buenos Aires nightclub killed another 194 people after a spectator unleashed a flare in the crowded corridor shortly after rock band Callejeros took the stage.
