The London Majors bring the punch king of their 2022 Intercounty Baseball League champion team.

Jose Arias, whose franchise-record 132 strikeouts in 97 2/3 innings, went 10-2 with a 1. 56 ERA in 15 games with London two years ago.

The last season was spent playing soccer in Venezuela and Colombia.

“It’s an honour for me to play again with the Majors,” the six-foot-five righthander from Dominican Republic said. “This is a great place for me and I want to help this team win another championship.”

In the past, Arias pitched six-year games with the Cubs and Marlins organizations from 2010 to 2015. He struck out 244 moves with a 3. 32 ERA in 241 0. 33 innings in his career.

Ella Shelton is the only local among the 24 players named to the Canadian Women’s National Hockey Team for the final 3 games of the 2024 Rivalry Series against the United States.

The 26-year-old from Ingersoll, a star defender for the PWHL’s New York franchise, will suit up in Saskatoon and Regina Feb. 7 and 9 followed by the finale Feb. 11 in St. Paul, Minn.

The Americans have won 3 of the 4 matches played so far on the seven-game tour.

Jayden McMullen, of St. Thomas, will compete in the junior men’s division at the UCI cyclo-cross world championships starting Friday in Tabor, Czechia.

McMullen, the junior national champion, was decided after a full season of World Cups and national events.

“This is the most powerful cycling organization I have ever seen make up Canada at a world cyclocross event,” said national team coach Michael Van Den Ham. “I’m excited to see what they can accomplish not only this year, but also with many new athletes. . . How those championships also set the stage for the future.
