Spanish finds that vitamin D ‘reduces deaths from COVID-19 by 60%’

Vitamin D reduces coronavirus deaths by up to 60%, A in Spain has suggested.

As parts of the country continue to comply with lockdown measures, which come with strict curfews and restrictions, studies have shown that a vitamin usually obtained from sunlight from herbs can help boost Covid-19 survival rates.

Scientists at Hospital Del Mar in Barcelona found that doses of vitamin D given to Covid-19 patients “reduced mortality by more than 60%. ” They also discovered that patients treated with this vitamin were also, at 80%, less likely to require remedies in extended care.

The investigation, through the Social Sciences Research Network, evaluated the effectiveness of Calcifediol, a vitamin D3, in more than 550 people.

Those who participated in the trial were randomly assigned as recipients of calcifediol treatment or as controls at the time of intake.

Although the article is still at the initial level and awaiting peer review, the results have shown that 36 of the 551 patients treated with calcifediol died from COVVI-19, compared to 57 patients of 379 in the group .

Researchers found only five per cent of the calcifediol group were admitted to the critical care units.

The scientists wrote: “The tight effects showed mortality reduced to more than 60% for other people who won the treatment.

“We have observed that, in hospitalized patients with COVID-19, treatment with CalcifeDiol has reduced intensive care needs by more than 80%.

“This supports the conclusion of a prior pilot trial in Cordoba in which calcifediol treatment lead to a reduction of more than 50% of ICU admission in hospitalised COVID-19 patients.’

The study has resulted in calls for hospitals to start using Vitamin D ‘immediately’ to treat COVID-19 patients.

Former Brexit Secretary, MP David Davis, said the findings from the Spanish hospital are part of a ‘very important study’ and could ‘save many thousands of lives.’

He said: “Since the study shows that the clear relationship between vitamin D and Covid mortality is causal, the United Kingdom government increases the doses and the availability of free vitamin D for all vulnerable groups.

“These approaches will save thousands of lives. They are behind schedule and must start immediately. »
