Spain removed almost all of its Covid restrictions in 2022, but cases have spiked again

Several popular resorts in Spain have reinstated regulations on mask-wearing amid emerging covid and flu cases.

The Spanish government said hospitals and fitness centers were overwhelmed, with patients lying in corridors or waiting hours to be seen. The Spanish Society of Family Doctors calls for the mandatory use of masks in these establishments, after pointing out that the winter wave of covid and flu are getting out of control.

While the nation’s Government is yet to formally reintroduce mask rules, some regions such a Valencia, home to Benidorm, has brought back mask-wearing in certain circumstances, the Mirror reports.

Health authorities in the region have ordered the use of masks in gyms due to the accumulation of respiratory infections, in an effort to prevent infections and vulnerable people. Currently, Valencia reports a rate of 1,501 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

The branch also conveys the message that fitness centers will vaccinate against the flu and covid-19 starting next Monday by appointment.
