MADRID (Reuters) – Spain’s Health Minister Mónica García made masks in the country’s gyms on Wednesday, as the country faces a rise in flu and COVID-19 infections.
“What we want to do is reach as many vulnerable people as possible,” he told reporters. “It’s just not unusual. “
The Ministry of Health has mandated the use of masks in hospitals and gyms and has done so in private clinics, pharmacies and other medical centers, such as dentists’ offices.
Several Spanish regions had already ordered patients, visitors and hospitals to wear masks last week. Spain’s central government on Monday proposed extending this requirement to the entire country.
Regions will have to eliminate this requirement if infections decrease for two weeks.
Spain is one of the last European countries to remove the mask mandate following the COVID pandemic, with other people being asked to wear them on public transport until February 2023, as well as in gyms and pharmacies until July.
