The historical races won some other blow with the news that the spa Classic Six Hours race weekend was cancelled due to the evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Belgian Roadbook Organization today demonstrated that the Classic Six-Hour from 25 to 27 September and its Hat-Track event from 10 to 11 October have been cancelled as the pandemic is returning to Europe and quarantine restrictions have been established.
The news will be greeted with great sadness by the competition and the organizers of the race, as the Classic Six-Hour is one of the highest dates in the ECU racing calendar.
More than a hundred cars take part in the six-hour race only and several hundred Britons sometimes compete in the event.
The composition of the race comes with the grids of Masters Historic Racing and Motor Racing Legends, while the Hat-Trick offers the latest historical Formula 2 races of the season.
In a statement, the organizers said: “The sadness is huge for the Roadbook Organization that did everything until the last minute for its events.
“The 2020 summary is very simple: 4 times canceled on so many scheduled appointments.After the cancellation of the Open Pitlane Spa in March and the Summer Classic Spa in June, the new Hat-Trick Spa cancelled for the first time in recent hours.
“Soon, the flagship occasion of Belgian and historic motorsport, the Six Hours Spa, will follow.
Once again, the organization wants to thank the teams, promoters, partners and the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, already very excited about these events.
“Due to travel-related headaches abroad, most groups and structures have also chosen to give up traveling to Belgium under very restrictive regulations, adding a imaginable quarantine between Belgium and other countries.”
Just last week, the FIA canceled all of its last historic motorsport championships for 2020 after the coronavirus pandemic.
