Governor João Doria announced this Wednesday (27) that the participation of São Paulo in Brazilian exports to the United Arab Emirates grew significantly after the opening of the São Paulo office in Dubai, in early 2020. Even with the pandemic, the increase in the weight of São Paulo in the national trade balance with the Arab country was 16.6% compared to 2019.
“Dubai is a hub for the Arab world at large. We have increased our exports by more than 15% since we opened our office here in February 2020. The leader in this sector is animal protein and poultry meat. We have also increased our exports of ethanol, sugar and orange juice. Agriculture has played a vital role and will continue to be a very strong sector in this post-pandemic period,” said Doria.
The governor is leading a project with businessmen and state officials for Expo Dubai, the world’s largest event since the start of the pandemic. According to information from the government’s Comex Stat portal, São Paulo exported $579 million to the United Arab Emirates last year, 28% of the country’s total, or $2. 057 billion.
In 2019, before the opening of the São Paulo government office in Dubai, the weight of São Paulo in exports to the Arab country was US$ 536 million, or 24% of the national total of US$ 2.25 billion. Now, as the state mission at Expo Dubai, exports from São Paulo to the Middle East are expected to increase even further by the end of 2021.
“These are advances achieved through the SP Government Mission in Dubai. There are 44 marketers, 34 corporations and one hundred percent of the project is financed through the marketers themselves. This is the liberal dynamic of Governor João Doria for this wonderful challenge of internationalization. ” said Gustavo Junqueira, president of InvestSP, the National Agency for the Promotion of Investment and Competitiveness.
Since 2019, the São Paulo government has opened industrial offices in the United Arab Emirates, China, Shanghai and Germany, in Munich. In December of this year, the state will also have one for North America, based in New York, United States.
“All offices have a proportion of 30% government and 70% staff. This is a guarantee that they will last regardless of who the acting governor of the São Paulo government is. The personal sector will only invest where it demonstrates efficiency, productivity, integrity and transparency. It will not use its capital to approve ill-advised, ill-advised or political actions,” Doria concluded.
Dubai Mission
InvestSP, the São Paulo State Investment and Competitiveness Promotion Agency, organized a trade mission for Expo Dubai, with state secretaries and São Paulo businessmen, who will participate in meetings in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah to conduct business and the search for investments. The Dubai Mission receives an investment of R$ 4 million from the private sector.

The Universal Expositions have been held since 1851, every five years. These are global occasions committed to finding answers to the difficult basic situations facing humanity.
