August 21 (UPI) – South Korean police sent more than two hundred officials to church at the epicenter of a primary COVID-19 outbreak after resistance from church members.
Police were sent to the site to capture evidence and download a correct list of church members. When no member showed up, police began operating at approximately 8:40 p.m.local time, the report says.
The raid of the church comes a day after police sent a small team of 30 officers. The organization had no court order and returned by completing its investigations after being rejected.
Friday night’s raid comes after Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung said on his Facebook page that more difficult measures were needed to respond to the spread of coronavirus, Newsis reported.
“It’s about punishment. Rejecting [guidelines] is a violation of the Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Act, and resistance is also a crime of obstruction.”
Lee also said in his that he “cannot understand” why a court order is needed to carry out the search and capture of an organization that has damaged the law.
On Friday, South Korea showed another 324 cases, bringing the total to 16,670.
