SEOUL: South Korea investigates a new coronavirus outbreak among 28 other people at a construction site in Seoul, the capital, on Thursday, marking the largest daily construction of infections since March.
City officials plan to review 500 citizens in a face-to-the-block transitoryness and have sent a team of specialists to investigate how others were infected on another five floors, one of the officials said.
It was discovered that about 28 of the 436 analyzed were carriers of the virus, 8 of them living in apartments just above others, the official said.
“The city of Seoul is conducting an initial investigation on the ground,” said Park Yoo-mi, ceo of the city government.
Experts in fields ranging from epidemiology to construction, as well as the Korean Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) were recruited to notice the trace of the infection, he added.
“We are investigating every infection route imaginable, adding sewers, vents and elevators. “
In July, the World Health Organization identified the option of air transmission of the virus, but verified its spread in the air.
However, an examination conducted in China this year discovered lines of viruses in the bathroom of an empty apartment above that of some inflamed tenants, suggesting the option of aerosol transmission through sewer pipes.
South Korea suffered a setback this month in its war against the virus, as a church epidemic spread to a political rally, despite the good luck past of containing it, compared to other countries.
KCDC reported on Wednesday 441 new coronavirus infections, the highest count since the first primary outbreak in early March.
The virus is more likely to spread through Seoul’s construction elevators than through its vents, said Kwon Jun-wook, director of KCDC.
“The option is not as good for the transmission direction through the ventilation openings,” he said at a separate press conference, and brought in experts.
Previously, the government had suggested corporations take checkered painters from their homes, fearing the threat of epidemics in overcrowded areas, such as a call center in March and a logistics center in June.
“Please conduct thorough audits of workplace points,” Health Minister Park Neung-hoo said, and mentioned call centers and logistics warehouses as a specific concern.
New infections raise South Korea’s number to 18,706, with a balance of 313. The August outbreak in the church caused 959 infections traced, Kwon said.
