South African solar thermal allocation breaks continental production record

The Bokpoort 50 MW solar plant in South Africa becomes the first renewable allocation on the African continent in a full week of uninterrupted operation.

The 50 MW Bokpoort concentration solar power plant (CSP) in South Africa has established a new African benchmark for renewable energy, the first renewable allocation on the African continent in a full week of 24-hour continuous operation.

Saudi-based renewable energy developer ACWA Power said the Bokpoort CSP plant had reached the new 13-day continental benchmark, with 312 hours of uninterrupted operation on October 23.

The 24-hour operation was made imaginable by optimally managing 9. 3 hours of thermal salt garage overnight, allowing the solar box to continue generating for thirteen days.

“We are very proud of this record effort that has effectively delivered 312 hours of continuous operations, resulting in approximately thirteen GWh of network power source at 83% power load,” said Christo Spammer, CEO of Bokpoort CSP. . .

“This is remarkable for a renewable energy facility and is approximately 20 hours of full or consistent charging with a constant with the day (with a 50 MW turbine), as fundamental charging technologies. “

This new feat follows the constant monthly production records set through Bokpoort CSP since June 2020. The plant delivered the highest production recorded in August and September and continued to offer perfect functionality in October 2020, achieving an all-time record. 1028 MWh prior to this month. “

Located in the northern cape province of South Africa, six hundred kilometres west of Johannesburg, Bokpoort’s 50 MW CSP power plant, which uses parabolic cylinder generation, was put into service at the time of the tendering of South Africa’s independent renewable force production program, setting records since operations began in 2016.

“The consistency and reliability of the plant’s functionality is evident because of its cumulative production functionality of 101. 2% from June 2020 to October 2020, relative to the production simulation style that defines the design expectations of the Bokpoort CSP plant,” spammer said.

“The fact that this functionality was achieved as a global pandemic amid national blocking protocols, and where the COVID-19 virus had affected site operations and implementation restrictions, is phenomenal.

“Our purpose is to deliver clean, reliable and renewable energy as normal,” added Badis Derradji, Regional Manager for Africa at ACWA Power and Board Director of Bokpoort CSP.

ACWA Power owns and operates Noor’s CSP plants in Ouarzazate, Morocco, and is building a 700 MW CSP plant in Dubai.
