South Africa banned the sale of alcohol on 27 March in reaction to the coronavirus pandemic, which was lifted on 1 June.
However, the ban was reinstated on 12 July without warning, making South Africa the only country to have reinstated a total ban on the sale of alcohol.
On Saturday, August 15, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that “the suspension of the sale of alcohol issue will be lifted with certain restrictions.”Replacement is effective as of (August 17).
In response to the nation, he said: “Alcohol intake will be allowed on site at authorized institutions until 10 p.m.
“Alcohol will be allowed to sell alcohol for external consumption Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m.5 p.m. only.”
Dr. Ivan Meyer, Minister of Agriculture of Western Cape, welcomed the news.
He said: “I welcome the resumption of industry and distribution.Resumption of sales and distribution will save lives and livelihoods.”
The Spirits Europe industry agreement had suggested to the South African government to hint when it will lift the total ban on alcohol sales in reaction to the Covid-19 pandemic, which he said is having a “devastating” effect on consumers.Stills.
