Solis Marine supports mobilization of offshore facility sending “Jumbo Javelin” in Singapore

Allocation is from Taiwan’s first giant offshore wind farm in several megawatts

As an approved essential service provider, Solis Marine was granted a general exemption from the Singapore Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI), which allows Solis to continue its operations on the site. Covid19.

When the restrictions prevented Jumbo Offshore from deploying its Dutch-based offshore equipment in Singapore to prepare for the mobilization of its heavy transport crane operator, Solis Marine was well placed to help Jumbo Offshore succeed in a number of difficult and demanding situations and keep the assignment on track.

Yunlin Marine Wind Farm

Jumbo Offshore, a shipping and heavy-duty operator, has been awarded a contract for the shipment and installation of wind turbine generator substructures for the Yunlin offshore wind farm, a renewable energy allocation for the Taiwanese government.

The allocation is 73% through wpd and 27% through a consortium led by Sojitz Corp which also includes Chugoku Electric Power, Chudenko Corporation, Shikoku Electric Power and JXTG Nippon Oil – Energy Corporation. Yunlin is 8 kilometers from the west coast of Taiwan. Once completed, it will be Taiwan’s first multi-megawatt offshore wind allocation.

Jumbo’s – Solis’ solution

For shipping, Jumbo Offshore deploys several ships in its fleet of heavy vehicles. For installation, deploy your 144 meter DP2 “JUMBO JAVELIN” maritime installation boat, a dynamically located heavy cargo shipping vessel.

Several modifications and innovations were required to equip and prepare the vessel for the allocation requirements. To manage this, Jumbo Offshore had assembled its team of offshore professionals based in the Netherlands and hired several suppliers and subcontractors who would go to Singapore to carry out the mobilization.

When Covid-19 safeguards were introduced, avoiding travel abroad, Jumbo Offshore contacted Solis Marine in Singapore for help from local experts in the field.

As an authorized provider of essential services, Solis Marine will continue its operations on the site in Singapore.

For mobilization, Solis Marine provided a technical superintendent/project manager and a port captain/mobilization manager who worked hard with an electrical engineer hired through Jumbo Offshore.

From the start of the task at the end of April 2020 until its final success in June, the Covid-19 blockade in Singapore presented a number of challenges. Significant accumulation in cases of coronavirus among foreign personnel living in local dormitories has led to a shortage of welders, installers and electrical engineers and the closure of the maximum shipyards.

In addition, several specialized subcontractors in 3 other countries were unable to reach Singapore, meaning that local subcontractors with the mandatory MTI general exemption had to be recruited and hired.

Close cooperation and coordination with the Dutch Jumbo Offshore team and its subcontractors founded in the Netherlands, Denmark, the United Kingdom and Singapore overcame obstacles, leading to a successful mobilization of “JUMBO JAVELIN” for its mission.

In the final stages of the mobilization of “JUMBO JAVELIN”, Solis Marine also helped Jumbo Offshore lease and mobilize an anchor trailer supply vessel (AHTS) that will lend a hand “JUMBO JAVELIN” in the project.

Teamwork

Captain Sjoerd Blomsma led the assignment on behalf of Solis Marine in Singapore, who said, ‘Solis Marine extremely happy to be named through Jumbo Offshore to help mobilize ‘JUMBO JAVELIN’ in Singapore for his next assignment. Thanks to close cooperation and teamwork, this was effectively achieved despite a difficult blocking era. »»

Ad van Langeraad, head of Jumbo’s technical department, agrees: “Solís has been wonderful at maintaining a high degree of power and finding solutions.”

Blomsma continued: “We have explored and implemented choice responses if necessary, meaning that time lost on the task due to Covid-19 points has been minimized. We wish Jumbo Offshore, the captain and team of ‘JUMBO JAVELIN’, who have contributed particularly to this a successful mobilization, and a successful assignment to come.
