Södra with ANDRITZ for the sustainable modernisation of the pulp mill in Mörrum

(BRIEF) In a bid to improve sustainability and potency, Swedish forest industry organization Södra collaborated with foreign generation conglomerate ANDRITZ to upgrade 3 electrostatic precipitators (ESPs) at the Mörrum pulp mill. This mechanical and electrical renovation aims to extend the useful life of the ESPs, increasing the capacity of the boiler and ensuring compliance with emissions standards. By incorporating built-in switched rectifiers (SIRs) equipped with silicon carbide force electronics, the power output can be particularly improved, resulting in really significant energy savings. Thanks to ANDRITZ’s extensive experience and global expertise, together with local support in Växjö, a flawless execution of the task is expected, in line with both companies’ commitment to sustainability and innovation.

(PRESS RELEASE) GRAZ, March 14, 2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Swedish forestry organisation Södra has awarded foreign generation organisation ANDRITZ the upgrade of three electrostatic precipitators (ESPs) for the recovery boiler at the Mörrum pulp mill.

Mechanical and electrical retrofits will extend the life of ESPs and increase boiler capacity, while ensuring compliance with existing emission standards.

ANDRITZ will upgrade the discharge electrodes and skid plates in the early ESP fields and install high-voltage power source assemblies (Switching Built-in Rectifiers (SIR)) in all areas. These state-of-the-art CRS, supplied with silicon carbide force electronics, are offered the highest electrical power on the market, resulting in abundant power savings for plant operators. ANDITZ’s multi-peak electrodes will improve the recovery of residual salts that will be recirculated in the process.

This upgrade will be done on one ESP at a time and does not require costly and costly box extensions. As a result, recovery boiler downtime and the impact on plant production will be minimized.

ANDRITZ has provided ESP answers to many generators around the world, adding two more Södra pulp generators in Sweden. The location of the committed ANDRITZ team in Växjö, combined with the group’s global experience, ensures flawless execution of the task.
