Chinese and Dutch artists held an art exhibition on Saturday to mark the 50th anniversary of China-Netherlands diplomacy.
Co-curated by the Cultural Center of China in The Hague and Pulchri Studio, the exhibition features 50 works of art, with artists from the country contributing to 25 works of art.
The artworks come with classic and fresh paintings, calligraphy, sculptures and art installations.
“I think art can bring other people in combination: other people from East and West, other people from emerging and evolved countries, Chinese and Dutch,” Chinese Ambassador to the Netherlands Tan Jian said in the opening rite of the exhibition.
Tan hopes that the exhibition will bring the two nations closer together and herald exchanges and cooperation between artists from the two countries.
The exhibition organizers overcame the adverse effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and dedicated a year to it, said the exhibition’s curator, Zhou Lesheng.
Dutch artists are interested in the works of Chinese artists, Zhou said, expressing hope that more long-term exhibitions can be held to further promote exchanges between Chinese and Dutch artists.
Bob Bonies, a famous Dutch artist and art educator, said he is pleased to appreciate the works of Chinese artists, which reflect Chinese cultural heritage and artists’ achievements.
Bonies said he had visited China several times and had been inspired through the “incredible and fantastic” progression of Chinese fashion art, which adheres to “very high foreign standards. “
