These will be round-trip cruises.

Genting Cruise Lines and Royal Caribbean International, which will be brought to Singapore, will be part of a “safe cruise” pilot assignment that will only serve Singaporeans at a reduced capacity of 50%, the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) said on Thursday (October 8).

Genting Cruise Lines World Dream will begin sailing on November 6, while Royal Caribbean Quantum of the Seas shipping will begin sailing in December.

All passengers will be evaluated for Covid-19 prior to boarding from the STB CruiseSafe program, jointly developed through the global DNV GL classification framework.

They must also comply with control measures, such as dressing in a mask and a distance of 1 m between passenger teams.

The Straits Times reported last Wednesday (September 30) that the STB had commissioned DNV GL to create a certification program for cruise lines wishing to offer “cruises nowhere” from Singapore.

Cruise ships have not been allowed to enter here since 13 March, when the Republic joined several countries to close their ports to those ships, for fear that they would carry inflamed passengers. The Diamond Princess, which quarantined off the coast of Japan in February. , served as an encouraging account of the immediate spread of coronavirus, with more than 700 passengers and equipment discovered sick.

But with Thursday’s announcement, strict security measures will be required by cruise operators here to prevent a repeat of an incident.

All cruise lines must be audited and certified CruiseSafe to leave Singapore, said STB, who added that the program compares to global standards of fitness and protection, adding those of the World Health Organization, Singapore’s SG Clean International Cruise Line Association and Clean National Initiative.

CruiseSafe includes:

– Infection measures at each and every level of a passenger’s journey, adding mandatory Control of Covid-19 prior to boarding.

– Strict and common cleaning and sanitation protocols on ships.

– Security control measures aligned with national policy at the time of navigation

– Ensure a hundred percent brand new air on the boat, so there is no air recirculation.

– Reduce the capacity of the boat to allow sufficient distance

– Put measurements on board to discourage close contact and mixing between passenger equipment.

– Emergency reaction plans for Covid-19 incidents.

Regular inspections will be carried out aboard pilot navigation, STB said. Cruise lines deemed in default will face penalties, adding fines, suspension of crossings, and revocation of CruiseSafe certifications.

Genting Cruise Lines and Royal Caribbean International decided on the pilot because they demonstrated their ability to implement mandatory protocols and precautionary measures, STB said, adding that both cruise lines were being certified.

All passengers over the age of thirteen must go through a Covid-19 check before boarding, while guests over the age of seven must provide their TraceTogether token or traceTogether app registered at check-in, he said.

Michael Goh, head of sales abroad at Genting Cruise Lines and president of Dream Cruises, said the cruise line would offer Singaporeans more vacation features beyond resorts.

“We are excited to be the first cruise ship sent to resume operations here in Singapore and give an important touch to the local tourism industry,” he said.

SingaporeRediscovers $100 coupons, which will be issued to all Singaporeans in December, can be redeemed for cruises.

Royal Caribbean has said it will offer night cruises of 3 and 4, which are now open for booking.

An audit on their online page revealed that three-night cruises start at $ 374 taxes and fees, while four-night cruises start at $ 509. A two-night opening cruise on December 1 starts at $ 334.

Those who book before November 30 can be replaced and cancelled up to 48 hours before the cruise departure. while those who test positive for the holidays will be entitled to a full refund.

Royal Caribbean will cover up to $25,000 according to the user for prices similar to Covid-19, adding medical expenses on board, any required quarantine and home, the cruise line said.

The pilot cruise team will be subject to strict measures that go beyond those in Singapore for cross-border travel, the STB said.

Those who will have to enter Singapore to serve on the boats must first go through 14 days of isolation in their home country and test negative for Covid-19 before departure.

They will be tested upon arrival and will mean 14 days of the stay, after which they will be retested. Once the exits are started, all team members will also be evaluated.

The tourism board said Singapore is one of the first countries in the world to expand and implement a mandatory audit and certification program for cruise lines, adding that its goal is to identify a long-term benchmark for cruise ships in the Southeast Asian region. main coordinator of the cruise ship to Asean.

They will largely monitor the effects of pilot cruisers in the coming months before deciding on the next steps on cruise ships, STB said.

To prepare for imaginable control of the cruise industry, he has also partnered with the International Cruise Line Association and Travel Weekly Asia to organize a series of educational webinars for regional travel agents.

Travel agents belong to the cruise industry, and account for about 80% of cruise packages sold in the region, he said.

Education will take place in October and focus on rebuilding the cruise call by raising awareness of improved sanitation measures for cruise lines and strengthening customer confidence.

Kelly Craighead, president and chief executive of the International Cruise Line Association, said in a statement that the agreement supports a thoroughly controlled and thoroughly controlled recovery of local cruise routes operating under foreign border restrictions, such as those announced in Singapore.

“We have noticed a very limited and thoroughly controlled resumption of cruise operations in some regions, namely europe and parts of Asia. The good luck of these operations, as well as the extensive adequacy measures that they will help tell the global reaction of the cruise industry to Covid-19,” he said.
