Singapore scientists variant of Covid-19 with milder infections

PanARMENIAN.Net – Researchers in Singapore have discovered a new variant of covid-19 coronavirus that causes more benign infections, Reports Reuters presenting a study published in the medical journal The Lancet this week.

He demonstrated that patients with Covid-19 inflamed with a new variant of SARS-CoV-2 had better clinical outcomes, adding a decrease in proportion with low blood oxygen levels or requiring intensive care.

It also showed that the variant, which has a giant deletion in a component of its genome, caused a more physically powerful immune response.

The study focused on researchers from Singapore establishments, adding the National Center for Infectious Diseases (NCID), Duke-NUS Medical School and the Science, Technology and Research Agency.

“These studies provide the first compelling evidence that an observed genetic substitution (mutation) in SARS-CoV-2 affected the severity of the disease in patients,” said Gavin Smith of Duke-NUS.

Scientists said the effects had implications for the vaccine and remedies for Covid-19.

Almost 23 million showed cases of Covid-19 internationally and more than 799,000 have died from the virus, Johns Hopkins University.

The head of the World Health Organization (WHO) said he hoped the coronavirus crisis could end in less than two years.
