The Singapore Book Awards from the Singapore Book Publishers Association, as you will recall, expanded this year to include 10 categories, 3 of which were recently added and reflect the progress of virtual publication on the island city-state literary network.
And a general from the e-book of the year, taken from the others, made an e-book about desserts the main name of the year.
Christopher Tan, The Way of Kueh, Savoring and Saving Singapore’s Heritage Desserts, is published through Edmund Wee’s Epigram Books through Christopher Tan (Epigram Books) as the winner of the elegance of illustrated nonfiction and e-book of the year, writes the jury in its justification, “Its impact, relevance and importance lies in its contribution to the heritage and wisdom it brings to both the network and the culinary world.
“This e-book on heritage desserts called kueh and discovered in Singapore and the region is superbly written, produced and widely researched. In fact, it is available for both beginners and culinary experts.
“The advantage, of course, is that this ebook is a cookebook.”
During the evening, the Singapore Book Awards were announced in a virtual presentation, and the association’s president, Peter Schoppert, stated: “The editorial excellence of the Singapore Book Awards.

In addition to these category awards, the show complimented two titles with honorable mentions, one of which is Loss Adjustment, an e-book on the culturally sensitive topic of Ethos Books’ suicide. The other went to Pustaka Nasional as a special mention for the use of generation in the creation of bilingual resources with the Lee Kuan Yew Fund for bilingualism “to demonstrate the benefits of the EPUB format for running bilingual e-books in a way that a published e-book cannot.”
During the presentation, comments came from Sim Ann, Chief Minister for Communications, Information and National Development, and Chonrungsee Chalermchaikit, president of the Thai Publishers and Booksellers Association, who has recently chaired the ASEAN Association of Book Publishers.
