Shanghai Disney has the new high-profile venue to close thanks to China’s strict zero-covid policy, trapping visitors inside.
People have been told they may not be allowed to leave the theme park until they can show a negative test.
This comes after Shanghai reported 10 cases transmitted on Saturday.
China’s arguable zero-covid policy has already seen millions of others repeatedly locked up, in unusual places.
Nature’s sudden closures caused other people to flee department stores, adding a Shanghai branch of Swedish furniture giant Ikea, and workplaces as they tried to get trapped inside.
However, those waiting for their freedom at Shanghai Disney can console themselves with a positive point: the games continue with paintings for those trapped in The Happiest Place on Earth.
In addition to the theme park, nearby spaces such as the grocery shopping street were also closed for a while after 11:30 local time (03:30 GMT).
Videos posted on Chinese social media Weibo showed other people running towards the park gates after the announcement, but finding them already closed.
In a post on Chinese social media WeChat, the Shanghai government said the park banned other people from entering and that inmates can only leave once they have tested negative for verification.
He added that anyone who has visited the park since Thursday must deliver 3 negative check effects in 3 consecutive days.
No date has been given for the reopening of the park. Shanghai Disney tickets will be valid for six months and refunds will be given.
The immediate closure comes just two days after the park began operating at reduced capacity to comply with Covid measures.
This isn’t the first time the park has closed unexpectedly. Last November, another 30,000 people were trapped internally after the government ordered everyone to be tested as part of contact tracing.
Nearly 3 years after China reported its first case of coronavirus, the government across the vast country continues to impose abrupt and excessive measures in an effort to prevent all transmission of the virus.
Millions of others are under another 200 lockdowns in China, as of October 24, while the country of 1. 45 billion systematically records more than 1,000 new Covid cases per day. The numbers are considered to be low epidemics in other parts of the world. .
However, earlier this month, Chinese President Xi Jinping signaled that there would be no break in the zero-covid policy — which targets all epidemics — calling it a “people’s war to prevent the spread of the virus. “
The Chinese government’s insistence on unpopular politics comes as the economy continues to take a hit, with GDP falling 2. 6% in the three months to the end of June compared to last quarter.
