Amid the deadly outbreak of the novel coronavirus, agitators at the Shaheen Bagh protest site say they are following all the rules and taking any and all precautions, and were likely relentless in calling off their protest despite the apparent security risk. The National Commission for the Protection of the Rights of the Child (NCPCR) on Wednesday requested a report from the Justice of the Peace South East Delhi related to the gathering of others at the Shaheen Bagh protest site amid the COVID-19 outbreak. In a letter, the NCPCR requested a report on the continued gathering of people at the protest site despite a notice from the state and central government about COVID-19 protection and prevention.
Shaheen Kausar, one of the protesters, said: “Women here in Shaheen Bagh are aware of the risk posed by the coronavirus. They have all put on masks and have disinfectant in their bags. We even maintain the required distance for pick-up and also make sure there are no more than 50 people on site, according to state government guidelines.
“However, we will continue with the protest. It’s time for the Center to pay attention to our constitutionally valid demands, which we’ve been protesting in the streets for more than three months,” Kausar added.
