The resumption of the Asian Champions League of the AFC had a setback with seven positive effects returned through COVID-19 tests conducted in all groups at Qatar’s West Asian hub.
The Asian Football Confederation showed Saturday that five players and a Saudi Arabian officer Al Hilal and a Qatari-looking player from Al Duhail had tested coronavirus.
Competition in the western zone resumes on Monday with the meeting of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Iran, the United Arab Emirates and Uzbekistan in qatar’s regional centre, where all matches will be played.
“Those who tested positive are under medical supervision in a quarantined environment as required by COVID-19 security measures and the protocols put in place for the tournament,” the AFC said on a Saturday.
The AFC had also revealed in the past that the UAE Al-Wahda team would not be able to go to Qatar after several club members tested positive for COVID-19. According to the rules of the tournament, Al-Wahda will have to resign from all matches of the organization.
In Qatar, all players and officials will be subjected to a “medical bubble” to restrict them only to the hotel, stadium and educational facilities.
