Last February, Saudi Arabia announced the transitional suspension of access for others to make the pilgrimage from Umrah to Mecca or stop at the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina, as a component of measures to involve the spread of COVID-19.

On 4 March, the Kingdom also suspended the Umrah Pilgrimage for its citizens and residents. In mid-March, the Kingdom suspended the organization of Friday exhibitions and prayers in all its mosques as a precautionary measure against coronavirus as well.

Umrah is a pilgrimage to Mecca, however, unlike Hajj, it is not obligatory, it can be completed in a few hours and can be done all year round. Some umra pilgrims make a stopover at the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina.

Saudi Arabia announced in September that it would begin allowing umra’s pilgrimage from four October in stages.
