The weekly FluView report released through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention mentions that the number of flu cases appears to be declining in some parts of the United States. However, overall seasonal influenza activity remains high.
The report also highlights the occurrence of coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) co-infections with severe influenza-like acute respiratory syndrome in hospitalized children. SARS-CoV-2 is the pathogen of novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
The CDC report provides key updates for week 49, which ends December 10, 2022. According to the report, 3 jurisdictions experienced moderate influenza activity and 48 jurisdictions experienced high or very high activity.
According to the report, about 23,503 more people were hospitalized with influenza infection last week, up from 25,906 cases reported last week. Significant relief in influenza-related hospitalization rates was reported. , while last week the index 5. 9 coincided with another 100,000 people.
A slight increase in influenza cases was reported in long-term care facilities. The percentage of nursing homes reporting at least one case of influenza infection rose to 6. 8% last week, up from 5. 4% the week before.
With respect to respiratory illnesses other than influenza, the rate of outpatient visits fell to 6. 9% last week from 7. 2% last week. This relief was observed in all age teams for the 5-24 age group; in which a slight induction was noted.
Approximately 25% of breathing samples tested in clinical laboratories are for influenza A. Approximately 80% of the isolates tested are influenza A (H3N2) and 20% are influenza A (H1N1). All detected viruses can be treated with antiviral drugs (oseltamivir, peramivir, zanamivir and baloxavir).
During this flu season, 30 flu-related deaths occurred among children, adding up to nine deaths reported last week. So far this season, at least 15 million cases of influenza, 150,000 hospitalizations and 9,300 deaths have been reported. The CDC has every six months of age to get a flu shot.
In its weekly COVID-19 report, the CDC describes a 3% drop in the 7-day average of new COVID-19 cases this week. Last week, there was a 50% increase in cases.
During this 7-day period, 2. 3% of COVID-related daily hospitalizations were reported to be inducted. However, an easing of around 13% in daily deaths has been documented in this period.
According to the John Hopkins COVID tracker, the United States has noted 99,843,680 and 1,087,083 deaths since the pandemic began.
The detection rate of SARS-CoV-2 in wastewater is highest in many parts of the United States. Among the regions reporting wastewater, about 53% reported SARS-CoV-2 levels since December 1, 2021. Approximately 80% of regions reported moderate to high levels of the virus in wastewater.
Moderate or high levels of COVID-19 were seen in 44% of U. S. counties. UU. De 52 jurisdictions, 50 reported moderate or high levels of COVID-19 this week. Over the past week, a scenario has been observed in 48 jurisdictions.

According to the study results, approximately 16% of influenza-related pediatric deaths are related to SARS-CoV-2 coinfection. None of the patients who died were vaccinated against influenza.
The study authors conclude: “The public and parents want to be aware of the threat of pediatric coinfection and adopt prevention strategies, adding high-quality, well-fitting masks when respiratory virus flow is high and annual influenza vaccination. “and to date vaccination against COVID-19. “
