PanARMENIAN.Net – The discovery of coronavirus in the bathroom of an unoccupied apartment in Guangzhou, China, suggests that the pathogen in the air would possibly have floated through drainage pipes, an echo of a primary SARS outbreak in Hong Kong 17 years ago, Fortune says in an article.
In February, traces of SARS-CoV-2 were detected in the sink, faucet and shower of an apartment that had been empty for a long time, researchers from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention of China said in a study published this month in Environment International. The infected bathroom was directly above the home of five other people who, a week earlier, were affected by COVID-19.
Scientists conducted an “on-site tracer simulation experiment” to see if the virus can spread through drainage pipes through small debris in the air that can be created by the force of a discharge. They discovered such debris, called aerosols, in toilets 10 and 12 degrees above THE COVID-19 instances. Two cases were shown on those floors in early February, which led to considerations that sarS-CoV-2 laden stool debris arrived at their homes through the pipes.
The new report recalls a case in The personal subdivision of Hong Kong’s Amoy Gardens about two decades ago, when 329 citizens had severe acute respiratory syndrome, or SARS, in component due to faulty sewerage lines. Forty-two citizens died, making it the most devastating SARS outbreak in the network, also caused by a coronavirus.
