Eric and Wendy Schmidt have announced the 2024 cohort of Schmidt Science Fellows. As in previous years, this year’s 32 fellows are all recent PhDs who have been known as one of the world’s foremost scientists in their early careers.
The Schmidt Science Fellows are supported by Schmidt Sciences, a philanthropic initiative co-founded in 2024 by former Google CEO and Chairman Eric Schmidt and his wife Wendy, president of the Schmidt Family Foundation.
The Existing Elegance is the seventh cohort of the programme, which is delivered in partnership with the Rhodes Trust. Since its inception, the Schmidt Science Fellows have supported 177 fellows, nominated through 62 institutes around the world.
Considered one of the most prestigious clinical postdoctoral fellowships in the world, Schmidt Science Fellows obtain a study framework for one or two years that represents a fundamental point for their doctoral concentration.
The aim is to foster interdisciplinary studies that can tackle some of the world’s most pressing challenges.

In addition to an annual stipend of $110,000, fellows earn one-on-one mentorship and participate in a year-long clinical leadership program that helps them expand the skills, experience, and networks expected of interdisciplinary clinical leaders.
Each year, the Schmidt Science Fellows program works with approximately one hundred of the world’s leading scientific and technological institutions to identify the most promising scholarship applicants. Nominees are selected through a procedure that includes an educational review by leaders in their local field and final results. interviews with expert panels, adding high-level representatives from many clinical fields and other industries.
The 2024 cohort represents 17 nominated nationalities across 26 of the world’s leading establishments in North America, Europe and Asia. Four institutions were chosen for the first time this year: the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), Singapore; Nanyang Technological University, Singapore; Max Planck, Germany; and the University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong. Eighteen of the fellows were nominated through U. S. universities.
