Schengen visa waiver for Omanis to begin in two weeks

Dubai: Omanis will not want to download a visa for the Schengen domain in Europe, official news firm ONA reported on Tuesday.

According to the ONA, the European Union will approve the elimination of the Schengen visa for Omani citizens in two weeks.

The announcement was made at a press conference held on Tuesday in Muscat through Sheikh Khalifa Al Harthi, Undersecretary for Diplomatic Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Oman, and Enrique Mora, Deputy Secretary General of the European External Action Service.

Sheikh Khalifa said a European representative will soon be opened in Oman. He highlighted the strong and developing relations between the Sultanate and EU countries.

“The Sultanate welcomes the European partnership strategy with the GCC countries and looks forward to continuing it in the fields,” he added.

The resolution also follows a series of meetings between European Commission officials and representatives of Oman in relation to the lifting of Schengen visa needs for Omanis.

It also comes after extensive efforts through the Sultanate to offload visa-free access for its citizens to Europe’s Schengen area.
