Saudi Arabia has sentenced to death 3 men who refused to have their tribe expelled to make way for the Neom wise town project, a human rights organization reported.
The Huwaitat tribe has opposed the assignment for some time, and one of its members was shot dead by Saudi security forces last year after posting images on social media of tribesmen displaced to land transparent to Neom, rights group Alqst reported.
The death sentences follow two 50-year criminal sentences handed down last month to two other members of the Huwaitat tribe. being evicted from their homes in Tabuc province, which was reserved for Neom, Middle East Eye reported.
Neom is the flagship allocation of Vision 2030, Prince Mohammed’s creation to decrease Saudi Arabia’s dependence on oil revenues. ambitious.
The fate of the project, however, has been mixed. There is little update on its progress, with media recently reporting that Saudi Arabia won the bid to host the 2029 Asian Winter Games in the wise megacity. This suggests that it deserves to be finished until then, or at least partially finished.
