Saudi Tourism Minister Ahmed al-Khatib announced on Tuesday that Saudi Arabia is a joint bid to host the 2030 World Cup alongside Egypt and Greece.
Al-Khatib said in an interview with Bloomberg in Riyadh: “We are reading the option of making an offer with Greece and Egypt, and we hope it will succeed. The 3 countries will invest heavily in infrastructure and will definitely be ready. “, and I know that until then, the Kingdom will have the most modern stadiums and fan areas.
Saudi Arabia’s bid to host the World Cup will climb the list of events hosted by the world’s biggest oil exporter as it seeks to open its economy to tourists and diversify away from reliance on energy sales.
Saudi Arabia has already secured the Asian Winter Games in 2029, the annual Formula 1 race and high-level boxing matches.
Egypt’s Youth and Sports Minister Ashraf Sobhy said earlier this month that his country would seek to host the World Cup in 2030 or 2034.
In a telephone interview with Ahmed Moussa’s TV show “Ala Massoulity” (On My Responsibility), Sobhy said Egypt would also prepare studies and paintings on the bid to host the 2036 Olympics.
“We will look to host the World Cup in 2030 or 2034,” he added. “The case is being conducted according to seriousness and steps, and we are working intelligently to make the case a success. “
