Saskatchewan records COVID-19 deaths in last 2 weeks

Four more people died from COVID-19 in Saskatchewan between Oct. 8 and Oct. 21, according to the province’s most recent respiratory surveillance report.

According to the report released Friday, 23 COVID-19 outbreaks have been reported in a high-risk setting in the past two weeks. The province provided details on the type of high-risk environment in which the outbreaks occurred.

The province said the COVID-19 test positivity rate for the most recent surveillance week was 15. 5 percent, up from 14. 9 percent last week.

He also states that COVID-19 is lately the most detected virus in the province. There has recently been a buildup in Regina, Saskatoon, Melville, and the northwestern regions of the province.

However, other regions of the province experienced solid or declining trends.

The total number of hospital admissions for respiratory viruses increased from 257 in the past two weeks to 271 in the recent two-week peak surveillance period.

COVID-19 hospitalizations rose from 180 in the latest report to 217 from Oct. 8 to Oct. 21. Intensive care unit admissions increased from 16 to 17 in the past two weeks.

Cases of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) have remained stable, with 8 in the past two weeks, according to the province. Flu positivity remains very low.

COVID-19 cases occurred among people 65 and older, accounting for 58 percent of cases.

According to the report, the COVID-19 vaccination rate in Saskatchewan has been low lately. Among people over the age of five, 8. 6% received their last dose in the last six months.

With the exception of Regina, all regions of the province have less than 50 percent of their population up to date with COVID-19 vaccines, according to the report.
