SANTA CLARA, Calif., December 06, 2023–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The Opus Prize Foundation has selected Santa Clara University to host the 2024 Opus Prize, a $1 million annual award recognizing individuals or organizations devoted to addressing critical social issues in their communities.

The Prix Opus is one of the world’s largest religious awards for social entrepreneurship. The annual prize consists of a $1 million prize awarded to the winner of the Opus Prize and a $100,000 prize for each of the finalists. Discovery, engagement, and learning that involve the entire campus, the award also seeks to motivate the next generation to dedicate their professional lives to the service of others.

The Opus Prize Process

Each year, the Opus Prize Foundation selects a Catholic university to accompany and lead the process of choosing the finalists for the Opus Prize.

As host, Santa Clara University has formed an oversight committee comprised of students, faculty, staff, and a member of the CSU Board of Trustees. The committee invited leaders from regional, domestic and foreign communities to nominate “unsung heroes” from around the world. The committee co-chairs are Molly McDonald, Chief of Staff to President Sullivan, and Alison Benders, Vice President of Mission and Ministry at Santa Clara.

Early next year, the committee will convene an Opus Prize jury, comprised of prominent networking leaders, bringing together companies, venture capital, industry and devoted leaders. The jury will review a number of entries and 3 finalists.

In the spring, Santa Clara University students, college students, and staff will have the exclusive opportunity to sign up as members of the Fondation Opus Award on visits to each of the 3 finalist organizations. These multi-day due diligence trips will offer an up-close and realistic look at the work of these “changemakers” in real-time.
