(RTTNews) – GlaxoSmithKline plc (GSK. L, GSK) and Sanofi (SNYNF, SNY) announced that, through Operation Warp Speed of the U.S. government, they decided to supply one hundred million doses of the COVID-19 recombinant protein vaccine. The U.S. government will provide up to $2.1 billion for development, adding clinical trials, manufacturing, scaling and delivering one hundred million starting doses. Sanofi will get most of the funds from the U.S. government.
Sanofi is leading the clinical progression and registration of the COVID-19 vaccine and expects Phase 1/2 to begin in September, followed by Phase 3 through the end of 2020.
Companies are in active discussions with global organisations and the European Commission, with France and Italy regarding the global coronavirus vaccine.
