(IN BRIEF) RWE, a global leader in renewable energies, has achieved a significant milestone by connecting its 20th onshore wind farm to the grid in Poland. The Żnin wind farm, located in Kujawsko-Pomorskie, boasts 16 wind turbines with a total installed capacity of 48 megawatts, generating green electricity to meet the annual demand of up to 77,000 Polish households. The project, completed in just 17 months, underscores RWE’s commitment to renewable technologies and long-term investment in Poland, one of its core markets. With over 540 megawatts of installed onshore capacity, RWE continues to expand its renewable energy presence in the region, emphasizing collaboration with local communities and partners in wind and solar initiatives.
(PRESS RELEASE) ESSEN, January 10, 2024 — /EuropaWire/ — The plant team has done a smart job: all 16 wind turbines at the Żnin wind farm in Poland have been installed and the rotor blades are spinning. In just 17 months, RWE has effectively connected its 20th onshore wind farm to the grid. The wind farm is in Kujawsko-Pomorskie, about 260 kilometers east of Szczecin, and has an installed capacity of 48 megawatts (MW).
Each wind turbine in Żnin has a nominal power of 3 MW. They produce enough green electricity to meet the estimated annual demand of 77,000 Polish households. Even before the works began, RWE had received a bilateral 15-year contract for difference (CfD) from the Polish government. This protects RWE as an investor from falling prices, while also protecting consumers from emerging prices.
Katja Wünschel, Managing Director of RWE Renewables Europe
As one of the world’s leading renewable energy companies, RWE continues to resolutely expand its portfolio in Poland. With the commissioning of Żnin, the company’s onshore capacity in Poland rises to more than 540 MW.
The company recently moved into new offices in the “Warsaw Unit” skyscraper in central Warsaw. The RWE team in Poland currently has about two hundred colleagues, and the trend is growing.
