Russian Spies Arrested for Planning ‘Espionage’ Attacks on Military Sites in Germany’

Two Russian spies have been arrested for planning attacks on “facilities of the US forces” in Germany to diminish the effectiveness of the army in Ukraine.

The two Russian men, Alexander J. and Dieter S. , were arrested Wednesday in Bayreuth, in southeastern Bavaria, prosecutors said Thursday.

Dieter is the top Russian accused of belonging to a “foreign terrorist organization” that sought targets and collected data to attack “facilities of the U. S. Armed Forces” in Germany, the Kyiv Post reported.

Both are suspected of “having acted on behalf of a foreign intelligence service” for espionage purposes and prosecutors called the case “particularly serious”.

Interior Minister Nancy Faeser said the espionage allegations were “a serious case of alleged activity by agents of (Vladimir) Putin’s criminal regime. “

He added: “We will continue to thwart such risk plans,” and Germany stands firm on Ukraine.

Prosecutors said Dieter S. had been exchanging data since October 2023 with people connected to Russian intelligence.

They added: “These moves were specifically aimed at undermining Germany’s army in Ukraine, opposed to Russian aggression. “

The Russians are accused of being willing to “carry out bomb attacks and arson, basically against military infrastructure and commercial places in Germany. “

The German publication Der Spiegal reported that the two men had spied on army installations, including a huge U. S. army base at Grafenwoehr in Bavaria, which also used to exercise troops before the war.

Among other things, there is a field of military education, where the US army trains Ukrainian soldiers, for example in Abrams war tanks,” writes Der Spiegel.

We know that the Russian apparatus of force is also targeting our country; we will have to respond to this risk with resilience and determination,” Justice Minister Marco Buschmann said on Thursday.
