Russian-led facebook troll network targeting British democracy

Facebook has disposed of a network of fake accounts and Russian pages pointing to Jeremy Corbyn’s supporters with false data about Boris Johnson, Sir Keir Starmer and Jacob Rees-Mogg.

Using elaborate online profiles covering various sites, network members posed as a Romanian-based news organization called Peacedata, which recruited independent journalists to write articles for a left-wing audience.

Facebook said its investigation had uncovered links to the Russian Internet Search Agency (IRA), which in the past was linked to election interference on Facebook in the 2016 US presidential election.

Twitter accounts connected to the IRA have already been accused of influencing the 2016 EU referendum.

CNN reported that the most recent action taken through the social network following an FBI tip.
