September 1 (UPI) – Russian Internet trolls who conspired to interfere in the 2016 election in favor of then-candidate Donald Trump will influence the 2020 election, a Facebook report revealed Tuesday.
Accounts have been deleted because they violate Facebook’s policy of opposing foreign interference, which is a coordinated inautenetic habit on behalf of a foreign entity.This includes relying on “to create fictional characters” accounts, which “used fake names and profile pictures” to pose as news editors from the United States and other countries, among other deceptive activities.
CNN Business reported that this was the first public evidence that it was evidence that other people connected to Russian trolls are Americans who do not know what they are doing to interfere with the 2020 election.
It is transparent that those related to activities beyond the IRA were “trying to actively, aggressively and creatively target the United States in the run-up to the [2020] election,” Nathaniel Gleicher, Facebook’s head of cybersecurity policy, told CNN Business..
“This sounds like an early attempt to target a left-wing audience on a variety of topics, but the operation defected in its early days and did not have a measurable impact,” said Ben Nimmo, whose Company Graphika.Facebook to examine the influence operation, said.
“The [US] elections were not the only goal, but to the extent that they were, it turns out that the operation sought to divide Democratic voters, just as the IRA tried in 2016,” Nimmo added.
Twitter announced that it had suspended five Twitter accounts connected to Peace Data, in a series of tweets, one that said they were “Russian state actors” and another that claimed that some of the site’s content was provided through authentic self-employed persons.
“Regardless of how low-level an effect will have in this case, governments around the world want to prevent such practices,” reads in another tweet in the series.”They are undemocratic. Attempts to manipulate our service to undermine democracy – through and national actors – will face the strict implementation of our policies.”
