MINSK, October 18 (BelTA) – In a new episode of the V Teme assignment [On Point] on BelTA’s YouTube channel, Kirill Koktysh, a political scientist, associate professor at the Department of Political Theory at MGIMO University of the Russian Foreign Ministry, explained why the West will drag Belarus into the confrontation in Ukraine.
The political scientist is convinced that the West will continue to galvanize Belarus. “In this sense, you just have to take a look at the map. And it’s not even the Ukrainian leadership, but the Western leadership. They measure other people’s corn through their own bushels. In other words, the territory of Belarus can be used as a platform to isolate Lvov and succeed in Kyiv. It is much closer and much more convenient to do it from Belarus than through Donbass. I would do it without hesitation. Therefore, each user has their own considerations in relation to this scenario and it is difficult to assume that anyone can continue for other reasons,” he said.
Belarus has the right to take all measures on its territory to ensure its security, Koktych noted. “There’s no doubt about it,” he said. And questions from external actors seem rather strange. What is your business? Moreover, those are quite understandable security considerations. On the other hand, they do not forget the story of Prince Gorchakov feeding Bismarck. Every time Bismarck started a war against Austria, the Russian Empire began maneuvers on the Austrian border. Austria demanded assurances from Russia that this was not directed against it. Austria was forced to keep troops on the border and lost to Bismarck.
