Russian and American playwrights are central to Flash Acts, a revolutionary theater festival October 8-thirteen, 2020

The Forum for Cultural Engagement announced FLASH ACTS, a six-day bilingual virtual theater festival featuring short works recently commissioned through 20 prominent American and Russian playwrights; round tables; and live musical performances. This unprecedented collaboration brings together Russian and American artists in an exchange of avant-garde artistic works, while the two countries remain in the spotlight. The festival will open on Thursday, October 8 at 12:30 p. m. EDT at www. flashactsfestival. org.

FLASH ACTS will release two productions, one in English and one in Russian, of 4 new pieces according to the day. These new and energizing works will be consistent with those formed through other artistic groups with actors in an advanced format that combines the most productive of theater, cinema. Friday, October 9 at 12:30 p. m. EDT, a panel with current U. S. Ambassador John J. Sullivan, as well as two former U. S. ambassadors to Russia, Jon Huntsman, Jr. and John F. Tefft, will focus on the importance of international cultural relations and the emergence of superior virtual international relations. A full FLASH ACTS program is available on the festival’s website.

FLASH ACTS reflects the accounts of Russian and American playwrights living in a world apart in this unprecedented period, said Mary McBride, founder and CEO of the Forum for Cultural Engagement. Today, more than 150 American and Russian artists turn out that art has the strength to deepen understanding and bring communities together.

Arena Stage is proud to be part of this foreign collaboration. Asking playwrights to write about isolation and then share those stories around the world through zoom productions is transformative. Isolation becomes collaboration, quarantine becomes business and borders disappear, said Molly Smith, artist-director of Arena Stage.

At a time when so much feels damaged and fractured around the world, FLASH ACTS is the style of an inclusive to build new relationships and understandings, and foster community, friendship and hope, said Derek Goldman, co-director of the Global Performance and Policy Laboratory at Georgetown University.

FLASH ACTS is sponsored through the U. S. Embassy in Moscow. The U. S. Embassy in Moscow is providing a standing ovation to the artists and manufacturers of the FLASH ACTS festival, Ambassador John J said. Sullivan, U. S. Ambassador to Russia. This avant-garde cultural exchange promises to succeed in countless audiences around the world, highlighting the strength of collaboration at a time too marked by isolation and division.
