Russia to COVID-19 vaccine in 40,000 human subjects

August 20 (UPI) – The Russian government announced Thursday that clinical trials will begin next week for its already registered COVID-19 vaccine and involve tens of thousands of human subjects.

Dmitriev also said Russia hoped to publish detailed clinical knowledge in a primary journal this month.

The World Health Organization announced Thursday that it had begun talks with Russia on the vaccine.

“This fear we have about protection and effectiveness is not particularly about the Russian vaccine, but all vaccines in development,” said Catherine Smallwood, WHO’s Director of Emergencies for Europe. “It’s not about taking shortcuts in terms of protection or efficiency.”

Moscow has yet published any clinical knowledge related to the Sputnik V vaccine and top experts continue to be skeptical about its protection or ability to protect itself from coronavirus.
