AEM, from Rosatom’s machinery division, JSC Atomnergomash, announced Thursday the delivery of a VVER-1200 reactor and steam generator.
Both were manufactured at the Atommash plant in Volgodonsk, Russia’s nuclear engineering production facility.
The Rooppur nuclear power plant in Pabna consists of two assemblies with a capacity of 1,200 MW each; the first unit is expected to enter service in 2023 and the time in 2024.
“In addition, our device still has a long way to go; another 14,000 kilometres will pass across the sea to succeed at the site of the structure of Bangladesh’s first nuclear power plant until the end of this year,” he added.
The nuclear power plants in the VVER-1200 reactor are characterized by an “unprecedented safety point, which allows them to be classified in Generation 3,” Rosatom said in a statement.
The shipment of large appliances – the weight of the reactor tank is 333. 6 tons while that of the steam generator is 340 tons – is a complex logistics operation.
From the Atommash site, the reactor tank and steam generator were transported through special automotive aircraft to the pier of the Tsimlyansk water tank in Volgodonsk, then to Novorossiysk, and from there, across the Black Sea and the Suez Canal, to the site, to Bangladesh.
It will also manufacture appliances for the turbine room building: high pressure heaters, vacuum pumps, condensate and force pumps, appliances for turbine separation and heating systems.
In total, from 2018 to 2022, more than 13,000 tonnes of appliances will be manufactured and shipped.
