Russia praises ‘not words’ moves on Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict

Russia is in a position to welcome actions, not words, that can only contribute to the settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict, the Kremlin spokesman on the scale of US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi told Yerevan on Monday.

“Anything that is not in words, but in deeds, and not a high-profile, non-populist statement, but in reality, discreet and professionally, can contribute to the normalization of relations, can contribute to the stabilization of the scenario on the border, all this can be welcomed,” Dmitry Peskov told a news conference in Moscow.

Pelosi arrived here after Azerbaijan and Armenia agreed to a ceasefire on Wednesday following border clashes.

At the rite of laying wreaths at an Armenian monument, Pelosi noticed wiping away tears, an act that some observers said was orchestrated to gain political ground.

Recent border clashes between Azerbaijan and Armenia have resulted in heavy casualties on both sides.

The two countries fought a war in 2020 at the end of which Azerbaijan liberated several cities and more than 300 settlements and villages that had been under Armenian rule for nearly three decades. The fighting ended with a settlement brokered by Russia.
