Russian forces have lost 42 artillery systems, 27 armored vehicles, and thirteen tanks in the past day, according to Ukraine’s Defense Ministry.
In a Friday morning post on X, formerly Twitter, Ukraine said Russia had lost about 500,000 troops since the start of the war in February 2022, as well as 7,635 tanks, 14,775 APVs, 356 aircraft and 12,902 artillery systems. did not independently determine Ukraine’s updated count and emailed the Russian Defense Ministry for comment. Russia does not account for its own losses and experts are wary of statistics reported through Russia and Ukraine.

The figures come as Russia intensifies its offensive in northeastern Ukraine.
Lt. Gen. Kyrylo Budanov, head of Ukraine’s army intelligence agency, said the scenario in the region was “on edge” and moving “toward criticism” every hour, according to a May 14 New York Times report.
About 11,000 more people were evacuated from areas of the Kharkiv region on Thursday, according to its regional chief.

In an interview with Reuters this week, Zelenksy said his country wants to have between 120 and 130 aircraft to compete with Russia’s air power.
Meanwhile, Russian media have presented weapons capable of countering F-16s. On Thursday, Moscow reported that Ukraine had lost more than six hundred aircraft since February 2022, as well as 9,771 artillery and mortar guns. Newsweek simply can’t independently determine those numbers.
On Thursday, fighting also took place elsewhere. In Crimea, there were reports of a Ukrainian missile attack that killed two other people on the Russian-annexed peninsula. Ukraine has not issued an official response.
