A kindergarten destroyed as a result of a Russian drone attack in kyiv, Ukraine, on Saturday, November 25. Russia launched its most intense drone attack on Ukraine since the start of its full-scale invasion on Saturday morning, military officials said.
KYIV, Ukraine >> Russia on Saturday morning introduced its most intense drone attack on Ukraine since it began its full-scale invasion in 2022, targeting the Ukrainian capital, military officials said.
In total, Russia introduced 75 Iranian-made Shahed drones into Ukraine, of which were destroyed through air defenses, the Ukrainian Air Force said.
“Kyiv is the main target,” Ukrainian Air Force commander Mykola Oleshchuk wrote on his Telegram channel.
This is “the largest large-scale airstrike carried out by drones against Kyiv,” said Serhii Popko, head of the Kyiv city administration. Ukrainian Air Force spokesman Yurii Ihnat later proved that air defenses had shot down 66 air targets over the capital and its morning landscape.
At least five civilians were wounded in the hours-long assault, in which several buildings were destroyed by falling debris from downed drones, as well as a kindergarten. Among the wounded was an 11-year-old boy, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said.
In the city’s Solomiansky district, debris left a crater in the courtyard of a residential community and windows of a nearby construction site blew out. The residents, most of whom are elderly, got medical care at the scene. Others sought refuge at a nearby subway station. As other people picked up debris and broken glass in the community, the buzz of a new wave of drones was heard nearby.
The attack on Kyiv began at 4 a. m. local time, continued in waves for more than six hours and caused power cuts to 77 residential buildings and 120 institutions, according to Popko. Ukraine’s Energy Ministry said another 17,000 people were without strength in the Kyiv region. As a result of the attack, it was observed that four lines of force were damaged. Power was restored in the early afternoon.
“Our infantrymen shot down most of the drones. Unfortunately, not everyone,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote on Telegram. “But we’re still working on our air defense and shooting down more. “
They took a stand on the morning of Holodomor Memorial Day, which commemorates the man-made famine in Soviet Ukraine that killed millions of Ukrainians between 1932 and 1933. It is celebrated on the fourth Saturday of November.
Speaking Saturday at the Grain from Ukraine summit, where leaders and parliamentary representatives from Belgium, Ireland, Finland, the Czech Republic, Poland and Estonia met with Zelensky in Kyiv to discuss global food security, the Ukrainian president warned that “if (Vladimir Putin) could bring about a new Holodomor in Ukraine, he would. “
In addition to Kyiv, the Sumy, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv and Kirovohrad regions were attacked.
Meanwhile, shelling killed one user and wounded three in the southern Kherson region, regional governor Oleksandr Prokudin said on Saturday. According to Prokudin, the domain had been bombed a hundred times in the past 24 hours.
