Russia destroys Ukrainian drones over Moscow, Defense Ministry says

Russia has thwarted at least 20 Ukrainian drone strikes over the past day in addition to the capital, Moscow, it said Sunday, a day after launching its largest drone attack on the Ukrainian capital.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, 11 drones were destroyed over the territories of Moscow, Tula, Kaluga and Bryansk oblasts on Saturday night, adding later on Sunday that more were also destroyed in the same regions.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said there were no injuries or debris.

In Russia’s Tula region, one of the drones crashed into a building, damaging windows and injuring one person, according to Tula Governor Alexei Dyumin.

An attack also targeted the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), damaging the force’s formula and leaving parts of the region without power overnight, according to the head of the Russian-backed DPR, Denis Pushilin.

“The scenario is difficult,” Pushilin said on Telegram on Sunday, adding that “work is underway, everything is being done to make heating available to our citizens again as soon as possible. “

Russia’s Defense Ministry said Sunday that its air defenses destroyed two S-200 anti-aircraft missiles in flight over the Sea of Azov around 11 a. m. m. , Moscow time (3 a. m. ET).

The attacks are the largest Russian drone attack on Kyiv, Ukraine’s capital, since the start of its full-scale invasion, according to local authorities. A post on Telegram from the Ukrainian Air Force said it had intercepted 71 Shahed drones in six regions. of Ukraine, the vast majority of them in the Kyiv region. He called the attack a “record number” of drones.

Saturday’s attack on Kyiv left 77 residential buildings and 120 institutions in the city center temporarily without power, before force was restored later in the day.

As the climate cools, Ukraine fears a repeat of last winter’s events, when Russia waged a sustained crusade of attacks on its energy infrastructure.
