Russia’s public fitness control body, Rospotrebnadzor, said Tuesday that up to 26 other coronavirus vaccines are developing lately in the country.
Anna Popova, director of Rospotrebnadzor, said in August that Sputnik V, developed through the National Research Centre for Epidemiology and Microbiology of Russia Gamaleya and the Russian Direct Investment Fund, has the world’s first registered COVID-19 vaccine.
“Thirty-six vaccines are in clinical trials and, worldwide, vaccines are being precly tested,” Popova said at an assembly at the Russian Academy of Sciences.
In Russia, 17 clinical organizations operate with 26 vaccines.
“Currently, about 50% of all patients with COVID-19 shown in Russia are asymptomatic or have only mild symptoms, thanks to epidemiological surveillance,” he added.
Rospotrebnadzor’s boss also noted that, according to official data, there was no pandemic wave moment in Russia in the summer season.
“Today, Spain, Germany and France come with the same figure as 50% asymptomatic cases, but they have taken time to claim that there has been no wave of coronavirus this summer.
“They think there are no waves in the summer.
“There were two waves; although we think it’s the same epidemiological process, just other manifestations,” Popova said at an assembly at the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Following the registration of Sputnik V, no fewer than 20 countries, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Mexico, Brazil and India, expressed interest in obtaining the drug.
Moscow’s plans include expanding vaccine production to two hundred million doses by the end of 2020, adding 30 million in Russia.
