Romania is on the verge of a flu epidemic, Digi24 TV reports. The maximum temperatures in the country in recent days favor the activity of viruses, the media of our northern neighbor noted, reports BTA.

An alarming accumulation of respiratory infections has been observed in the Danube during the last 3 weeks. In the last seven days, there have been 2,700 cases of influenza in Romania. Hospital emergency rooms are increasingly full of patients and 10% of those who do are hospitalized.

“In our hospital, the children’s ward is full, there is an accumulation of respiratory infections, the flu virus and the number of adults with severe influenza, as well as the number of those who have coronavirus,” reports Simin Florescu, director of the Clinical Hospital of Infectious and Tropical Diseases “Victor Babes”. He reports that the COVID ward is full and the number of flu cases further complicates the situation.

Over the past week, there have been more than 140,000 respiratory infections, most of them in the past seven seasons. “When we have temperature adjustments, the framework adapts much more difficultly, and this is obviously one thing in the flu and more headaches in case of illness,” says Adrian Marinescu, director of the Matei Bals Institute of Infectious Diseases in Bucharest.

It’s not just hospitals that are full of patients with respiratory infections. Waiting rooms in front of GP offices are also crowded. Doctors advise other people to get a flu shot, but it’s hard to find vaccines lately.

“I couldn’t get vaccinated because I’m pregnant, but I need a flu shot for other family circle members. I couldn’t locate her at the GP, I hope the pharmacy has her,” patient Michaela was quoted as saying via Digi24.

To date, 1. 4 million people belonging to risk categories have been vaccinated in Romania.
